Glenn Townsend enters his second season as the women's head soccer coach.
He transitioned to the women's side of the game after spending a season as an assistant for the men's team. Townsend continued to help with the men's program for another year after being named the assistant coach for the Lady Eagles.
The two years following Townsend's arrival as an asisistant coach saw the Lady Eagles produce their two best seasons to date, going 25-12-2 in that span.
In his first year at the helm, Townsend took a short-handed team to a 7-13-2 finish. While the record fell short of the standard he'd set for the team, the Lady Eagles finished the year in style. Faulkner knocked off No. 4 William Carey in the opening round of the Southern States Athletic Conference tournament before edging No. 2 Mobile in penalty kicks in the league semifinals.
The late season heroics ushered in the program's first-ever national tournament appearance. Faulkner went on to face No. 15 Embry Riddle in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Townsend has several technical and theory soccer diplomas from Canada. He also holds the U.S. NSCAA Premier Coaching & Advanced National Goalkeeping diplomas. He has been a member of the University of North Carolina women's staff for their team and residential camps for several years. He also works with the University of Alabama at Birmingham's residential camps, the Pensacola Piranhas camps and is on the Alabama ODP staff.
Townsend is a graduate of Faulkner University where he was an honor student and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Management.
Coach Pierce is entering her second season as the Lady Eagles' assistant coach. She brings to the job a wealth of playing and coaching experience, having played collegiate soccer at Harding University before enjoying a semi-pro career with Haringey Borough FC in London, England.
A native of Austin, Texas, Pierce has worked with the CC United Soccer Club in her hometown, and also served as the head women's coach at St. Dominic Savio High School in Austin. She also coached at Beechwood Secondary School during her time in England.
While in Austin, Pierce was an active member of Brentwood Oaks Church of Christ. She earned a bachelor's degree in kinesiology from Harding and a master's degree in education with an emphasis on athletic administration from the University of Oklahoma.
Kelly-Jade Whelan enters her first season as a graduate assistant for the women's team.
The London, England, native played four seasons at Bethel University (Tenn.), an institution which enters the 2013 season as a new Southern States Athletic Conference opponent.
