MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The first week of fall practice is in the books for the Faulkner football team, setting the stage for Friday night's full-squad scrimmage as head coach Brent Barker and his staff begin the process of working on the Eagles' depth chart.
The scrimmage, to be played at John Mark Stallings Field on the Faulkner campus, begins at 8:15 and is open the public.
"We plan on going about an hour and half," Barker said. "We'll be getting everybody on the field so we'll be reviewing a lot of film on Saturday. We already know what a lot of players can do, but the new guys can really make an impression Friday night. We have to make some determinations about who is ready to play, so we can start turning our attention to our first opponent."
The Eagles open the 2012 season Sept. 1 against Mid-South Conference foe UVA-Wise in Wise, Va. Faulkner's new on-campus stadium will be completed for the home opener against Lindsey Wilson, scheduled for Sept. 22.
Barker was pleased with the week of practice, which included three days with his team in full pads. He said players on both offense and defense have responded positively to the challenges of early fall workouts.
"We've been blessed this week with the weather," Barker added. "The rain and the overcast skies have really helped keep the temperatures down, which has allowed us to get more work in without it being unbearable."
