MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Clayton Nicholas and Michael Watkins clinched the offensive and special teams Mid-South Conference Player of the Week awards, respectively, after their performances in last week's 35-13 win against Ave Maria the league announced this afternoon.
Nicholas secured his third weekly honor of the season and the sixth of his career, tying former quarterback Josh Hollingsworth for the most by a Faulkner player.
Nicholas threw for 231 yards on 25-for-37 passing and added three touchdowns. He now leads the MSC in total offense with 1,683 yards and ranks second in passing yards per game, averaging 288 yards each outing.
Watkins earned his first career weekly honor after returning the opening kickoff 94 yards for a touchdown, his second return touchdown of the season.
Watkins averages 32.2 yards per return, which leads the Sun Division and ranks fifth in the NAIA.
This is the third time this season Faulkner has had multiple players win a weekly award in the same selection and the eighth time in program history.
The Eagles resume division action on Saturday at Billy D. Hilyer Stadium against No. 15 Southeastern University. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m.
