MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Faulkner women's soccer team (0-4) is still searching for its first win of the season after Montevallo (1-1) erased a 3-1 deficit to defeat the Lady Eagles 4-3 this afternoon at Billy D. Hilyer Stadium.
Faulkner took the lead in the 22nd minute when forward Kassandra Carpintero took advantage of a mistake made by the Lady Falcons keeper on a goal kick. Carpintero received the ball outside of the 18-yard box on the left side of the field before making a move past a defender and squeezing the ball just inside of the right post.
Just over two minutes later, Montevallo's Taylor Ring was also able to take advantage of a defensive mistake. Faulkner goalkeeper Kelbe Davies (0-4) was able to get a hand on the shot, but it had too much pace and found the back of the net to tie the game.
Forward Kayla Wilson was able to give the Lady Eagles the lead going into halftime when a Montevallo defender failed to clear the ball. Wilson fired on an open net in the 34th minute.
Faulkner took a commanding 3-1 lead nearly 15 minutes into the second half when Wilson scored her second goal of the match by beating the goalkeeper in a one-on-one goal and then three defenders.
Montevallo answered a minute later when Ring crossed the balled into the box and Kira Bochard finished with a one-touch goal.
The Lady Falcons tied the event in the 66th minute on a set piece from Christine Malone that found Ring was able to take a touch before scoring on a back-heel shot from six yards out.
Bochard scored the game-winning goal 15 minutes later.
Montevallo outshot the Lady Eagles 22-5 on the game.
Davies (0-4) came away with ten saves while allowing four goals.
"I thought we did well offensively," head coach Leslie Pierce said. "We haven't scored three goals in a game in a long time. On defense, we just seem flustered. The other team scores when we drop everybody inside."
Faulkner is off for a week before returning to action on Sept. 21 when they face off against Talladega College at Billy D. Hilyer Stadium. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
