MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner's Ryan Lee and Alex Pina-Rhoden have been named the Mid-South Conference Sun Division Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, respectively, the league announced Monday afternoon after their stellar performances in Saturday's close battle against No. 21 Georgetown at Billy D. Hilyer Stadium.
Lee, a junior linebacker from Batesville, Mississippi, secured the defensive award after wrecking havoc on the Tiger offense. The transfer out of East Mississippi Community College recorded six tackles, two of which were sacks, had a pass breakup and intercepted another returning it 28 yards giving his offense a first and goal situation at the 5-yard line.
Lee ranks sixth in the MSC in tackles for a loss and is tied for first in quarterback sacks.
Pina-Rhoden, a senior receiver from Dallas, Texas, was equally devastating on the flip side of play with 98 yards and there touchdowns on just five catches. His first scoring reception came on a tipped pass he carried 49 yards, while the other two included the go-ahead touchdown with 1:02 to play in regulation as well as the lone strike in overtime.
The Delta State University transfer ranks fourth in the conference in scoring receptions this season.
This is the first weekly honor for each player and the first awards for the team so far this season.
Faulkner returns to action Saturday when it hosts No. 3 Reinhardt (Ga.) at 1:30 p.m. at Billy D. Hilyer Stadium.
