MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Eagle offense proved too much for the Milligan College Buffaloes (0-3-1) to handle as Faulkner (3-0-1) cruised to a 5-0 victory in the second game of its own Invitational at Billy D. Hilyer Stadium this afternoon.
Midfielder Renan de Sousa scored the first goal of the match in the 22nd minute when he bent a free kick from the left side of the 18-yard box just inside the right post, completely out of the goalkeeper's reach.
Forward George Redwin was able to take advantage of a mistake by the Milligan keeper tapping in a followup goal, his fourth of the season, in the same clock minute.
Jarom Farnsworth closed out the first half with the first of his two goals in the outing 39th minute. The senior received a through ball up the middle from de Sousa and finished in a one-on-one situation with the keeper.
The Eagles' hard-hitting offense didn't slow down a bit in the second half. Defender Matheus Mello converted Faulkner's fourth goal of the game in the 20 minutes into the period with an explosive header off of a Farnsworth corner kick.
Farnsworth showed off his skills again as he beat the keeper in another one-on-one matchup in the 73rd tick of the outing.
Caio Calado (3-0-1) and Liam Hopkins each saw 45 minutes in the net while Calado earned the win. For the second time in as many games the Eagle defense held its opponent to just two shots for the game, only one of which was on frame and ultimately registered as a save for Calado.
"We were calmer on and off the ball," head coach Kyle Beard said. "They kind of sat back in the first 15 minutes of the game, and we let them. We didn't try to force anything. We feel really good about it."
Faulkner will be on the road for its next match against Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee, on Friday. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
