MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner's men's golf team finished third in the Southern States Athletic Conference tournament here at the Arrowhead Golf Course this afternoon as Dalton State cruised to the event title. No one could catch the Roadrunners as they methodically raced through the links and into a 23-under-par team total 829 spanning three rounds. Coastal Georgia finished second with a 9-over-par 861 while the Eagles shot a 23-over-par 875.
Shane Wright led the Faulkner five with a three-round 217. The senior shot a 1-over-par 72 on Monday before working his way into a fourth place tie yesterday after posting a 69. Wright closed out play with a 76 this afternoon and finished in a tie for seventh place in the 48-man field.
Peter Peng was 1-under-par through the first 18 holes in the event and followed with rounds of 78 and 73 to tie for 17th overall.
Isaac Hatcher was the most consistent golfer at Arrowhead over the three days carding straight 74s to finish in 20th place.
Matthew Nuttall's opening round struggles prevented him from making a bigger mark in the tournament. The sophomore overcame his Day 1 81 with a 1-under-par round yesterday. He wrapped up the season with a 73 today and in 23rd position on the leaderboard.
Matthew Burnett shot 74, 76 and 78 and ranked 28th in the final tally.
