GAINESVILLE, Ga. - Second-ranked Brenau (44-5, 24-0 SSAC) inched by Faulkner (20-27, 9-13 SSAC) 3-2 here in Game 1 of this afternoon's Southern States Athletic Conference doubleheader before slamming the door shut on the sweep with a 5-0 shutout in the nightcap.
The Golden Tigers struck first with two runs in the bottom of the second inning in the opener, but the Lady Eagles tied the contest with a two-run sixth inning courtesy of RBIs from Shelby Brown and Emma Cornell.
Brenau slipped into the win column, however, with a final run in the bottom of the bottom of the sixth inning.
Hayden Strickland (3-8) surrendered two earned runs on eight hits while striking out three batters over six innings in the Game 1 loss.
Caitlin Perry (9-6) gave up five earned runs on as many hits while striking out two batters over four innings in the second loss.
Tori Davis tallied two strikeouts and allowed two hits over the final two innings of play.
Hannahlee Harris led the offense with three hits on the afternoon.
Faulkner returns home for a doubleheader against Point (Ga.) tomorrow afternoon beginning at 2 p.m.
