ROME, Ga. - Faulkner senior guard Chris Palmore was selected to the All-Southern States Athletic Conference team for the third consecutive season, it was announced here Wednesday night at the annual banquet preceeding the SSAC men's tournament.
Two of his teammates - senior forward Adam Okechukwu and sophomore guard Jake Mitchell - were chosen to the all-division team. Both teams were selected by a vote of the 14 league coaches. Mitchell also made the all-academic team, which requires a 3.25 grade-point average and at least one year of residence at their current school.
Junior guard Malik Major was Faulkner's Champions of Character award recipient.
The Eagles (16-12), winners of nine of their last 12 SSAC games, earned the No. 2 seed from the West Division and open the tournament Thursday night against No. 15 Lee, the third seed out of the East Division. The game tips off at 7 central time at Darlington School.
Palmore, a four-year starter from Cartersville, Ga., averaged 16 points and seven rebounds a game, both team-leading numbers. He also dished out three assists a game for the Eagles. Okechukwu, from College Park, Ga., was second on the team in scoring and rebounding, adding 11 points and six rebounds an outing. Mitchell, from Florence, Ala., averaged 10 points and four assists per game.
